COLD DUTCH DAYS

Excuse all the couch pics!! But this is really all I see haha. It’s officially winter time again and I feel like I haven’t seen the sun in ages. It gets dark and stays that way until late in the morning. I’ve been lighting my “fireplace” quite often in the mornings so it doesn’t feel too gloomy. The best recent idea I had was to bring my duvet to the couch. It was so cozy and I spent almost the whole morning there (not like I usually don’t do this haha). This second lockdown really got me wearing my pajamas until noon, simply because there is nowhere to be. The Hague is looking very pretty these days with all the Christmas lights and I love walking around at night and getting a glühwein. The past days it’s been quite cold so its always nice to stay in as well, order some pizza and treat yourself to some sparkling wine.

NOVEMBER

With everything still closed (yes I am a month late and it is December now) life has been very low key. The most exciting parts of my week include walking into town and getting a chai or glühwein (the best on is from Six Pense on Papestraat in The Hague). I also got some festive flowers (they are half dead by now haha) that used to smell really nice. Theres not really much else to share besides the fact that I am loving my new boots. Ever since I got them these have been the one shoes I wear. They give me cold war military vibes haha.

THE LAST MONTH WITH SUN: AUGUST

Back in The Hague, it was all about enjoying the last month of Summer. The weather was quite decent, luckily not too hot. My friend Katharina came to visit and we went kayaking through the canals (highly recommend), strolled around town, had some drinks and took a trip to Noordwijk Beach for a dinner by the beach. Dinner was Tulum, however it was a bit disappointing. The food was overpriced and just not that good. At least it was nice to sit by the ocean.

A few days later some friends and I put on a Gala evening, simply because we wanted to have a nice dinner and put on pretty dresses. Corona made that hard the last months, so why not organize it yourself. Another very fun evening with great food and drinks.

The summer ended with sunsets by the “Fensterbank” and many brunch dates. Even though this summer was a bit different, I still quite enjoyed it. I taught me to appreciate my surroundings more and lead me to exploring more places that I would have never even considered.

RANDOM SNAPSHOTS

Weeks have passed and so far I’ve been to Germany twice and plan to go again next week. Especially right now traveling far is not really possible so my summer is starting to look like a monthly excursion to Germany to visit friends and family. It started with a weekend in Frankfurt where we had a nice dinner and saw my grandma and dropped by my moms aunt on the way back. She lives in a peaceful and calm forest and I must say I love the aesthetics of her house! After some coffee and Dutch cookies (which are not thaaaaat good) we headed back to The Hague. The week after I finally got to see my board again, it had been like two months since we last saw each other! It was very fun and of course we had to pop some champagne haha. Sadly the board year is slowly coming to an end so I’m trying to take in as much as possible before its officially over :(.

KEEPING BUSY

Summer is slowly starting to kick in and I’ve finally (hopefully) finished all exams. I wanted to do another blog post because why not so when I went to see what I could post it turned out to be mainly food as always. It’s really not intentional, I just really like to eat. We’ve been having some picknicks in the park, wine and grapes at the beach, fresh fish from Katwijk or a healthy brunch. The sunny days call for a walk through town, this time it was Delft. However, it was more of a walk to Delft to go to IKEA for hotdogs. Unfortunately it turned out to be a very disappointing time because the line to get into the store was so long that we didn’t wait and never even got our hotdogs. After that two hour walk it was quite upsetting. One day I’ll make up for that. But for now I’m going to continue my happy eating and try not to skip my workouts. It’s also time to figure out summer plans and if some kind of traveling will be possible…I hope so!

All this food!

After scrolling down to this I think one thing is quite clear…I have a thing for food. From the market, from the store from the Pizzeria, I love it all. Staying home alone has really gotten me to start cooking and week by week I’m trying out a new recipe. Of course I got my cheat days where I like to order in haha. On the weekends, my family and I always go to this German bakery in The Hague and it’s great because they have fresh bretzles we always get. Lately I’ve also been buying a lot of lemons and I’m not sure why. I really like the color but they’re also so useful. You can put them in water, make lemon squares, lemon cakes, ginger shots, lemon chicken idk you name it hahah. Eating a lot also means I need to walk it off so I’ll do that on the occasion when I feel like it….really trying to not get lazy these days, some days its works better than others. Also, we mustn’t forget the latest love I am dedicating to my plant. I’m very proud to say that my plant is still alive and it is growing a new leaf. We’ll see how long it lives but I am doing my best!

WHEN STUCK AT HOME…

It has really been quite a few uneventful days for me..more like the past two weeks haha. The moment university came to an end that’s kind of where it began and the laziness kicked in. Besides eating, having some wine, watching Netflix and doing the occasional walk or workout I have not been doing much. I finally did get myself to watch the lectures for class but it’s a bit of a slow process getting into a routine haha. Let’s be honest tho, I’m sure we’re all struggling. I figured this quarantine might be a good opportunity for me to learn how to cook so I got Hello Fresh to follow a proper recipe for once. We’ll see how it turns out haha, perhaps I will fall back into an UberEats trend tho. For now I’m gonna attempt to get some more work done, watch more Netflix and if I’m up for it and the beautiful sun decides to show itself today, go out for a little refreshing walk.

COFFEE ON THE WEEKEND

New fav cafe: Barista Cafe

Finally I got myself a weekend free! It was the first one in a long time. Although I still had the usual responsibilities of course, it felt great to not have to be anywhere during the weekend. I got to try this coffee place I have always walked past so many times and I think it’s my new favorite! I had a chai latte and my friend Philipe a cappuccino. Sunday I made myself coffee as well because I can’t afford to keep getting it from cute cafes haha and was happily surprised by the golden hour light that filled the living room Sunday afternoon. Overall a relaxing weekend before the craze about exams starts.

SUNRISES AND SUNSETS

Waking up at 5:15 am on the daily has been peaceful and therapeutic. Despite being super tired at that early time of the morning it’s a great time of the day to enjoy the sunrise. Not being disturbed by any sounds because the world is still deep asleep makes this entire experience more amazing.

The sunsets on this island are breathtaking. All I can do is stare into the nothing and enjoy the gorgeous orange light shining. To remember moments like this I always play the same song which fits the vibe perfectly and lets me enjoy my surroundings (Hanoï Café – Bleu Toucan).
