GHENT

In combination to Antwerpen, our short trip included a train ride to Ghent. Another gorgeous city with a historic center.

The city is quite lively and it seems there is always something to do. During the time of our visit the city was hosting a festival, meaning stages were set up all around town. It looked like one big party but did ruin the look of the center. Despite that to get a good view, we climbed the St Bavon Cathedral. I think I must’ve died climbing those 500 steps but at least when I got to the top I was welcomed with a magnificent outlook onto the town. Now I’ve been able to recover for a few days from the recent trips and tomorrow the travels continue!

ANTWERPEN – YOUR LITTLE GETAWAY

Never before had I been to Antwerpen, despite it being quite close to where I actually live. The city has a gorgeous center with a Grote Markt that is filled with cafes buzzing with people at all times of the day. This destination, which is famous for its diamonds, has multiple museums to further your knowledge (if u want haha). With this in mind, my friend Philipe and I took a bus down there to explore the city. Our goal was to look at some museums and try out some trendy restaurants. But we were disappointed…museums are closed on Wednesdays (the full day we had) so that was a bit of a fail.

Instead, this trip turned into a little getaway. Hence the title haha. We splurged a little and decided to stay at the Raddison Blu on Koningin Astrid Plein. The view from the room was stunning, with the window perfectly framing the central station building. Staying away from this hotel room made exploring the city kind of hard haha. Starting the morning off with fancy room service and eating that in your bathrobe is the best way to relax and spend your morning. Sitting on the chair and finishing your freshly brewed coffee before showering and actually starting your day is honestly the best way to go.

Once we had actually decided to leave the hotel, we did get to know the city quite well. If you ever plan on visiting Antwerpen, I do recommend exploring the city as you can find some exciting spots (for a good view!!). One of the museums that did decide to be open on a Wednesday was the Mas Museum. This place is filled with exhibitions about a city in India to a Life and Death. Once you climbed the 13 floors to the top of the building you are welcomed with a view of Antwerpen making the climb totally worth it. Except it wasn’t actually a climb, there’s just a lot of escalators…

As a treat, I suggest trying ice cream from this place called Australian. Yes, a misleading name haha but to me this was some pretty good gelato outside of Italy. And I can’t forget to mention the restaurant called Morso. A place where you can enjoy some very yummy meat and eat yourself fat 😉

BALD HEAD ISLAND THROUGH MY PHONE

It feels good to be back out in the sun despite the hot temperatures. Yesterday we arrived on Bald Head Island in North Carolina and I absolutely love it here. We’re surrounded by cute houses and even palm trees (which I did not expect haha). So far we’ve just been driving around in the golf cart (cause there’s not actually cars on this island) and exploring our surroundings. This morning I woke up quite early like 5:30 and sat outside in the hammock for an hour or so. That was super nice especially being surrounded by a flurry of chirping birds mixed with the buzzing of insects swarming across the patio. For now I’ll be soaking in the sunny rays and getting some more color on my skin.

BLUE MOMENTS

Being in Iceland I was always surrounded by blue or green wherever I looked. If it was the ocean or a waterfall, these colors could be really found everywhere and multiple shades. When visiting the Blue Lagoon the color had a gorgeous turquoise touch to it and created a really nice contrast with the sky.

I probably spent about two hours in the Lagoon completely disconnected from the outside world. All around the lagoon there are different opportunities to sit and rest for example the massage section or a waterfall. I found myself a quiet spot in a corner and just sat there with nothing but my face out of the water (I did get burned haha who would’ve thought). It was a great opportunity to sit back and just think.

I absolutely love the ocean and could not get enough pictures of it. When standing on a boat and being hit with the wind and the fresh air is one of my favorite feelings. It really creates the best vibe. Here again you see the different shades of blue you can find all over Iceland. Even the animals blend in.

Blue is on top of the earth and right underneath deep down into a glacier as well.

so basically 50 shades of blue haha

touch down in Iceland

This morning we took off from Frankfurt and were on our way to the Island in the middle of the ocean. It was quite interesting landing because you couldn’t see anything but rock (no trees!).

We finally got all checked into our hotel and headed out into Reykjavik to look around and have some dinner.

We ended the day with a little walk to explore the shoreline. It’s funny because in these pictures it kind of looks like the sun is setting but we’re so far north it basically stays light 24 hours. Like currently it’s 11 pm here and it’s as bright as day outside. Kind of throwing me off tho…like it just doesn’t really feel like it’s time to go to bed ahah .

Quick stopover in Frankfurt

Today my grandma and I are heading over to Iceland! Before we left I came to Frankfurt to see her and so that we could travel together. We had a chill time form when I arrived and just prepared for our trip, did some chatting obviously (because if you know me then you know I can’t stop taking haha).

Later in the evening we went for a nice dinner at a new restaurant called Casa Nova. We both had some simple pasta Arrabbiata with fresh homemade bread. It was quite a funny dinner because someone spilled Limoncello all over herself….but with a full stomach we went back home and jumped into bead to make sure we weren’t tired for our travels tomorrow haha.

italian munchies

Italian food is probably my favorite so when I had the opportunity to go I stuffed myself so much that I gained like 20 pounds.

We did a lot of fun wine tastings! My knowledge on red wine has increased like crazy haha

The best food you can get is from the market. This market was in San Gimignano and they had really good meat and fresh fruits and veggies that we used for dinner later that evening.

A classic tuscan dinner with lots of salami, focaccia and chianti classico.

and the best part of course: the gelato! We had gelato at least once a day and it never disappointed. Everywhere you went the gelato was delicious and there were just so many flavors to choose from every time.

PARIS

This was my third time visiting Paris with my friends and sometimes I do wonder why I keep going back…
But I must say it’s quite the city with lots of good food and pretty architecture!

fun fact: my pants were actually ripped all day long because I didn’t have other ones to change into that matched my outfit

It was a fun and short stay in Paris but never the less it was a good way to relax after exams with no worries on any of our minds. Maybe the only one was having no more money because I did spend 20 euros on that salad whoops
